There's something inherently special about March Madness, I just can't get enough of it. Now, it's the beginning of April and we find ourselves getting ready for the Final Four match-ups to take place this Saturday. When it comes to any branch of sports, I really do enjoy picking the winners of games. It's a interesting experience to break down games piece by piece and then see how well you did. With that in mind, I plan on doing that a lot more now, to add some more depth to the Sports blog here. So, let's get started.
The first game of the night is between #2 Michigan State and #1 UConn. As a disclaimer, I'm not the biggest fan of college basketball, but I am slowly getting more and more involved as time goes on. What I'm trying to say here is that I am by no means an expert on these games. For a more detailed breakdown, check this out. But, for a basic breakdown, read on. This game is going to be played in Michigan, which gives the Spartans home-field advantage. However, UConn has been playing very strong. Averaging 87 points per game in the tournament, they are clearly a force to be reckoned with. So, for my analysis, I think that the Spartans will gain an edge at times, but ultimately UConn will prove to be too tough of an opponent.
My pick? UConn wins, 83-76.
The following game is a match-up between #1 UNC and #3 Villanova. Again, a detailed breakdown of the game can be found here. With star players on both teams, who has the competitive edge? UNC has both Ty Lawson and Tyler Hansbrough and 'Nova features Dante Cunningham and Scottie Reynolds. In the end, each team has some pretty powerful weapons but can easily lose these assets due to foul trouble. However, 'Nova hasn't been to the Final Four since 1985, and that's definitely something to consider. Against a very tough crew at UNC, I just don't think that the Wildcats will be able to handle the pressure when the time comes.
My pick? UNC wins, 89-84.
Now, don't hold me to these picks. As previously mentioned, I am nowhere close to even being able to stand next to the experts. But, I do have pretty good intuition most of the time, so I'm hoping I picked the winners in this one. Until next time, this has been The Picks.
